In light of our upcoming village elections, I request your support. Vote #1 for Joel Feinstein on April 2, 2019 to support village leadership in line with our community values and to increase the diversity of knowledge on our Board.

Who is Joel I Feinstein?

I have been a resident of Wilmette since 1999. We moved to Wilmette from Skokie when we were going to outgrow our house, as my wife Laurie was pregnant with our third child. Since we are active members of our synagogue, Beth Hillel Bnai Emunah, we chose a house within walking distance. I currently sit on the board of directors of the synagogue and we are active advocates of LGBTQ issues.

I am a professional civil engineer specializing in water resources, drainage, utilities, and permitting. I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) from Union College and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering hydrosystems (MSCE) from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

Civil engineers are technical people able to solve a wide variety of civil-works problems related to roadways, railways, airports, structures, and dams. Civil engineering is an umbrella term that covers transportation, environmental, structural, and water resources. Though civil engineers are often public servants working for municipalities or government organizations, I have always worked for consulting firms that are hired by government organizations, utilities, and private clients requiring related services. Consulting engineers are not just skilled technical professionals, but business people that help their clients with planning, design, and construction projects that they cannot handle in-house.

Why am I running?

As a civil engineer I can provide professional and targeted insight for many municipal issues. The majority of our current Village Board is made up of finance and legal professionals. I can provide a perspective that complements the current Board professionals with knowledge in infrastructure, traffic, water, stormwater and other utilities that go well beyond the knowledge of the average citizen.

I also maintain a progressive and liberal stance on many social issues our village faces. Our current board does not adequately reflect our community values. It would be great for the State of Illinois to provide leadership on minimum wage, sick time, and gun control. However, in lieu of such positions, my term will push Wilmette to be a regional leader and advocate for these issues, reflecting the values and positions held by our community.
