Positions
Minimum Wages and Paid Sick Time
The board had previously voted to not opt in to the Cook County ordinance regarding a minimum wage increases and paid sick time. This not only showed lack of leadership within the board, but that they are out of touch with village residents. The board has only voted to overturn this impulsive decision after a referendum showed 80% of our community was in favor of the Cook County ordinance. Why was the board so out of touch with the residents? The referendum and upcoming municipal election has caused the entire board to overturn its prior vote with the notable exception of Trustee Joel Kurzman, who voted according to the community in the first place.
Canal Shores Golf Course
How could the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD) have possibly supported this bad idea to pave the 10th hole of the golf course? Forget the golf! We are worried about old growth trees, wetlands, stormwater, destruction of riparian area, and, okay, the park and golf course too. This issue could have only come about through politics.
West Side Storm Water
The village board, after perseverating for years, finally voted to advance a stormwater option called Neighborhood Storage. This was literally the smallest project our board could do without doing nothing for west Wilmette residents at risk of flooding. They did not support a conveyance option or a larger detention storage option due to the costs. This route leaves some residents unserved and still at risk. The village needs to keep working with the Wilmette Park District (WPD) to be able to use their properties and provide the WPD with benefits in return.
Environmental Issues
I started off my professional career working on clean energy and have been an early proponent and adopter of recycling. I am a lover of green areas, particularly with large trees, and I like rain gardens, bioswales, green roofs, and other ways to treat stormwater or replenish our air with oxygen. I support minimizing the use of winter salt and Wilmette joining the Climate Mayors.
